Ringed Turtle Dove

This was a surprise to see in our backyard!  I left the Starling & the Red-Winged Blackbird in the picture, just so you could appreciate the sheer size of this bird...it's about 2 - 3 times bigger than the more common Mourning Dove we see around here and featured on a previous post.

Northern Flicker (Woodpecker) (Yellow-shafted form)

Woah!  I have never seen this bird either!  From a distance, it looked like a woodpecker, but then it flew to the ground and looked more like a dove, but once it got close enough for me to see it's markings, I was stoked this guy landed in my yard!  I hope this one comes back again!  I also like the fact he was eating bugs out of my rocks!
